We will be serving meals from an African menu this Saturday evening, March 31st from 5-7 p.m. 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Greater Newburyport/Bura Alliance. Members of GNBA will be on hand with photos and information about the group and its projects in southern Kenya, which include the support and education of orphans and vulnerable children, material and financial assistance to area clinics, an environmental program, a soccer program involving ten schools, and a computer program at the Bura Primary School.

Entrees are priced between $12 and $14. The public is invited to attend.

Chef Jess Zulkaiewicz and Café owner Paula Simpson collaborated on the creation of the menu which includes:
~ African Peanut Soup with Chicken
~ Kuku Tikka Masala (chicken) with Long Grain Rice
~ Bobotie – South African curried beef casserole
~ Mtuza Wa Samaki (fish in curried coconut milk) with Rice.

Side dishes include:
~ Irio – a vegetable patty of peas, mashed potatoes and corn
~ Sukama Wiki (collard greens)
~ Ugali (similar to cornmeal porridge), a staple food of Kenya.

The featured dessert is Crunchy N’dizi (baked bananas which have first been steamed and then rolled in butter and ground nuts).
