“Going Coastal,” a series of watercolor and oil paintings by local artist Anne Recchia, will be on display at Carry Out Cafe during March and April. The public is invited to  a special reception on Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the cafe at 155 State Street in Newburyport to meet the artist, see the artwork and enjoy light refreshments.

“I’ve always been inspired by landscapes and seek to recreate the atmosphere of my favorite places,” said Recchia. “With my father coming from Ireland and my mother born in Vinalhaven, Maine, I have the coast, the sea, and the seasons in my blood.”

Recchia, who moved to Newburyport in 2006, is a member of the Newburyport Art Association, a former member of the North Shore Arts Association and the Concord Art Association. She was a member of Bridge Gallery, an artists’ co-operative in downtown Newburyport. Her work is in private collections in the United States and Europe.

A former French teacher, she holds a bachelor’s degree from Regis College and a master’s degree from Assumption College. She teaches a watercolor class at the Emma Andrews Library on Purchase Street in Newburyport.

In May 2004, she was awarded an artist-in-residence for a month in Dinan, France, combining her love of French and Art. “The rocky coast in Brittany is similar to that of New England,” she noted. Recchia hopes to return there for a reunion soon.

“Anne’s art captures a moment in time that evokes the peace and beauty of living by the water,” said Paula Simpson, owner of Carry Out Cafe & Catering. “The beach is my happy place – and many others feel that as well.”

The paintings on display at Carry Out Cafe are available for purchase. Please contact Julie Cook at [email protected] or the artist directly. For more information, visit www.annerecchia.com.
