New Englanders don’t need an official snow record to christen 2015 as their “Winter of Discontent.” The Vernal Equinox may have passed on the calendar, yet plenty of grey snowbanks stubbornly remain everywhere, causing even the sturdiest Yankee to long for some beauty and warmth.
Never fear ~ the flowers and greenery will return eventually. In the meantime, Carry Out Cafe & Catering is nurturing a virtual garden of delights, courtesy of West Newbury artist Beverly A. Mitchell. Vivid flowers of all shapes, sizes and hues are sprouting on our Gallery Wall in our latest exhibition called “Spring Has Sprung.”
Beverly uses her palette of riotous color to conquer the canvas of drab snow that has over-stayed its welcome. “Color delights my spirit,” says Mitchell. “I search for it everywhere, and surround my life with it always.”
Beverly is well-known in the artist community of the North Shore. She has been named a Copley Artist by The Copley Society of Boston, and The Newburyport Art Association has honored her by establishing an annual prize in her name at the Young Budding Artist shows due to her ongoing work with children. She has encouraged generations of local, budding artists through art instruction. When not teaching drawing and painting to beginners and intermediate students, she keeps busy creating in many mediums – including her own vibrant gardens.
Come see the oils, acrylics and watercolors that will banish your winter blues.
The show will be on display through the end of April. An Artist Reception is scheduled for April 17, 2015 from 7:30-9 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
